Goo Goo Dolls’ Robby Takac Talks Social Media, Bass Playing and More

Interview: Robby Takac of Goo Goo Dolls chats ahead of band’s co-headlining tour with Daughtry

Goo Goo Dolls and Daughtry have teamed for a summer co-headlining tour that will take the bands’ pop-rock to amphitheaters across North America from now through the end of August. Right before the trek, Audio Ink Radio caught up with Goo Goo Dolls bass player Robby Takac to talk about what he’s listening to right now and he affinity for social media.

When it comes to social media sites such as Twitter and Facebook, Takac says it’s been a positive for him connecting with fans.

“It’s a good promotional tool,” he said. “I don’t know if I wasn’t in a band and trying dealing with the public if I would be so active, but it’s great. I don’t feel like people want to know what I’m doing all day, but I do enough cool stuff that people are interested in and I can talk about a little bit. Some people live on it, and that’s not me, but it’s a great way to reach people.”

Switching gears to Takac’s bass guitar philosophy with Goo Goo Dolls, he says less is more. “We grew up playing punk rock music, and I’ve always thought that keeping things simple and to the point is an important thing when it comes to making music. I like to stay out of the way and make the most out of every note I do play.”

So, what’s Takac’s new favorite band? “Capital Cities is a band I’m listening to right now,” he said. “They’re a really cool band.”

Goo Goo dolls and Daughtry’s co-headlining tour, which also features openers Plain White T’s, wraps up Aug. 23 at Champlain Valley Exposition in Essex Junction, Vt.
