Frances Bean Cobain: ‘The death of young musicians isn’t something to romanticize’

Frances Bean Cobain, the 21-year-old daughter of Courtney Love and the late Kurt Cobain, doesn’t agree with something indie pop singer Lana Del Rey recently stated in an interview. In fact, Cobain was quite disturbed by it.

Speaking with the U.K.’s Guardian newspaper, Del Rey was questioned about the early, not-so-natural deaths of some of her favorite musicians, including Amy Winehouse and Kurt Cobain. The singer, whose breakthrough album was named “Born to Die,” replied, “I wish I was dead already.” She added, “I don’t want to have to keep doing this. But I am.”

Frances Bean responded to Del Rey’s comments in a series of Twitter posts, in which she stated, “The death of young musicians isn’t something to romanticize. I’ll never know my father because he died young & it becomes a desirable feat because (people) like u think it’s ‘cool.’ … Embrace life, because u only get one life. The people you mentioned wasted that life. Don’t be 1 of those people.”

Kurt Cobain killed himself on April 5, 1994. Frances Bean was only 20 months old.

After fielding some heat for her tweets, Frances Bean added, “I’m not attacking anyone. I have no animosity towards Lana, I was just trying to put things in perspective from personal experience.”
