Rivers Cuomo Says Weezer Went Old-School on ‘Everything Will Be Alright in the End’

Weezer’s new album, ‘Everything Will Be Alright in the End,’ has a traditional album feel

Weezer frontman Rivers Cuomo isn’t giving into the modern musical trend that goes against traditional albums that tell a story. In fact, when setting out to work on Weezer’s upcoming album, “Everything Will Be Alright in the End” — the band’s first release since 2010 — Cuomo harked back to the “good old days” of writing and recording a full album.

Cuomo recently told BBC Radio 1 host Huw Stephens that song playlists, shuffle-mode listening and single-song purchasing are “not where we come from.” For “Everything Will Be Alright in the End,” Cuomo said he and band mates went “all-in again” to go through the full writing and recording process of a new album.

“I think there is a feeling of confidence there that whatever happens … our fans around us, [who] we are so close to now, are really going to appreciate this,” Cuomo said. “That’s really the most important thing to us.”

Even though the new Weezer album is set to drop on Sept. 30, it’s not completely finished. Cuomo told Stephens that the new release is “about 99 percent done.” He also dropped the news that Weezer plan to book shows at smaller venues when the album first comes out and perform “Everything Will Be Alright in the End” from start to finish.

Weezer premiered the album’s debut single, “Back to the Shack,” last month.
