Volbeat’s Michael Poulsen Discusses Upcoming Five Finger Death Punch Tour
Interview: Volbeat frontman Michael Poulsen chats about the band’s fall 2014 trek with Five Finger Death Punch
Volbeat and Five Finger Death Punch have teamed up for a hard-charging fall tour of North America, which will kick off Sept. 16 in Salt Lake City and continue for five weeks before wrapping up Oct. 24 in Las Vegas. While the guys of Volbeat and Five Finger Death Punch have played the same shows numerous times, this is their first proper tour together on the same bill.
“We started to get to know Five Finger Death Punch while playing some of the same festivals in America and Europe, and we’ve been hanging out with them ever since,” Volbeat frontman Michael Poulsen told Audio Ink Radio. “They’re just great guys. We’ve been talking back and forth for a long time about doing a tour together, but the timing hasn’t been right until now.”
Volbeat are on the road in support of their 2013 studio album, “Outlaw Gentlemen & Shady Ladies.” Poulsen says it’s his favorite album out of Volbeat’s discography, and he’s not just blowing smoke.
“I’m very proud of our latest album, and I’m not trying to sell the record when I say I think it’s the best record we’ve done,” he said. “Each record has a special place in my heart, though. One couldn’t survive without the other. I want all records to walk on their own legs.”
Volbeat recently played the festival circuit, both in Europe and the U.S: “All summer, we’ve been doing all the festivals, which has been great. It’s been a great run of shows and fans,” Poulsen said.
Following the Five Finger Death Punch run, he plans to start working on new music. Those new tunes could come as early as 2015. “After the tour with Five Finger Death Punch, we’ve take about half a year of a break, and we’ll be at home writing for the new album. Then, we’ll go into the studio next year to record the new album.”
