Keith Richards’ New Children’s Book is a Family Affair

Keith Richards of the Rolling Stones released an autobiographical children’s book, “Gus & Me: The Story of My Granddad and My First Guitar,” earlier this week, and his 29-year-old daughter, Theodora, illustrated the read. In the 32-page book, Richards lays out how his grandfather helped inspire him to make music.
“I’ve always wanted to pay homage to Gus,” he told People Magazine. “He set me on my way.” Richards added he received his first guitar when he was 9 years old from his grandfather.
Richards explained that his publishers gave him the idea to write a children’s book around the time his fifth grandchild was coming into the world.
“It seemed appropriate with the two things coinciding,” Richards said he quickly asked Theodora to do illustrations for the book, even though this would be the first time she attempted to draw professionally. “I had to keep it in the family,” he said.
“We were at dinner and dad was like, ‘I have a surprise for you,’” Theodora said. “I read the first few lines and realized he was asking me to do the book. I’ve always loved to draw, but I’ve never put it out there.”
“Gus & Me” is available as a hardcover book, an electronic book and an audio book. Those who opt for the hardback version will score a CD with extra audio material.
