Metallica, No Doubt, Deftones and Linkin Park to Play Inaugural U.S. Rock in Rio

Rock in Rio will travel the U.S. next year, and performs will include to Metallica, No Doubt and Linkin Park

Rock in Rio festival got its start in Brazil in the ‘80s, and now, the rock event is considered the long-running music festival in the world. Rock in Rio has traveled to Portugal and Spain, and now, it’s coming to the U.S.

In May, Rock in Rio will make its U.S. debut in Las Vegas, and the folks behind the festival have announced the headliners. Metallica, No Doubt, Deftones and Linkin Park are among the performers for the inaugural event, and the rest of the bill offers a variety of acts, including Taylor Swift and John Legend.

The festival will happen May 8, 9, 15 and 16 in Las Vegas, in a concert venue built just for Rock in Rio called City of Rock. The venue will be huge—try 37 acres wide, enough to fit 85,000 people into the venue per day. A VIP area will offer space for 4,000 more people. City of Rock will offer six stages, a 64-foot-high zip line and three “Rock Streets” dedicated to the culture and music of the U.S., U.K. and Brazil.

In Rock in Rio’s past 30 years, more than 7.4 million fans have attended the festival. The event has also featured more than 1,200 different performers. For more information on the upcoming show, visit the festival’s official website.
