U2’s Bono says he can sing but still can’t play guitar following last year’s bicycle accident

U2 frontman Bono says he’s still able to sing but still unable to play the guitar following a bicycle accident in New York City’s Central Park that happened more than five months ago. Bono suffered multiple injuries due to the accident, including a fractured left hand, a broken left arm, a fractured shoulder blade and a fractured left eye socket.

Bono spoke with The New York Times at the Pacific Coliseum in Vancouver, British Columbia, where the group had been preparing for their upcoming “INNOCENCE + eXPERIENCE” tour.

Bono told the Times reporter that “this is the hard bit, because I can’t play guitar.” Then, he looked at the other members of U2 and joked, “They don’t seem to mind.” While Bono stated he’s still having trouble bending some of his fingers and also has numbness issues in his forearm and elbow, his shoulder is better and “the face is better.” He added that another part of his left hand “is like rigor mortis… but they say that nerves heal about a millimeter a week, so in about 13 months I should know if it’s coming back.”

U2’s upcoming tour will set off May 14 at the Rogers Arena in Vancouver, British Columbia.
