Jack White’s Third Man Records is expanding

Jack White hails from Detroit, so it makes sense that his Third Man Records would come to the Motor City. White and Shinola founder Tom Kartsotis have teamed up to purchase the Detroit building that currently contains the Shinola Flagship store Detroit’s Cass Corridor. That space will soon be home to a new Third Man Records retail store and offices.

Third Man Records’ Detroit retail location will be open by Black Friday (Nov. 27) of this year, and a press release promises “many special surprises in store.” Third Man was actually founded in Detroit, so the expansion is a homecoming of sorts. This Cass Corridor is also where the White Stripes played their first show, where White went to high school.

White says the area “has always been the most inspiring area of Detroit for me as an artist and as a Detroiter. From the great visual artists like Gordon Newton to the music of the Gories, and the birth of the Detroit garage rock scene, the Corridor has nurtured Detroit’s soul and inventiveness for decades. That spirit pushes forward with Shinola’s passion and will come full circle for the artists of the Corridor that work with Third Man Records to plant a new foundation there to help keep that creative spirit alive for decades to come.”
