Stone Temple Pilots Issue Statement on Scott Weiland’s Death

The members of STP say Scott Weiland was ‘gifted beyond words’
Stone Temple Pilots have released a joint statement regarding the passing of former frontman Scott Weiland, who was found dead Thursday night (Dec. 3) at the age of 48. The band members – guitarist Dean DeLeo, bass player Robert DeLeoand drummer Eric Kretz – posted the statement on their Facebook page.
“Let us start by saying thank you for sharing your life with us,” reads the statement. “Together we crafted a legacy of music that has given so many people happiness and great memories. The memories are many, and they run deep for us.”
The band’s statement continues, “We know amidst the good and the bad you struggled, time and time again. It’s what made you who you were. You were gifted beyond words, Scott. Part of that gift was part of your curse. With deep sorrow for you and your family, we are saddened to see you go.”
Weiland was one of the founding members of Stone Temple Pilots and was with the group until they broke up in 2002. STP got back together in 2008, but Weiland parted ways with the band in 2013. Stone Temple Pilots had been playing shows and recording new music with Linkin Park’s Chester Bennington, but Bennington left the group last month.
