Metallica’s new album is ‘nearing completion,’ according to Lars Ulrich

After months, actually years, of hearing that Metallica was working on a new album, the guys finally have a ballpark idea of when the new tunes might drop. Drummer Lars Ulrich tells Billboard that Metallica’s new collection will likely drop this year. The album will mark the band’s follow-up to 2008’s “Death Magnetic.”

“I think it’s going to get wrapped up soon,” Ulrich said. “Unless something radical happens it would be difficult for me to believe that it won’t come out in 2016.”

He added, “It’s definitely coming along. Nearing completion. Should be done soon…hopefully.”

Ulrich isn’t the first to suggest Metallica’s new album will see the light of day in 2016. Metallica’s co-manager Peter Mensch just recently told Billboard that the band’s upcoming release will arrive”probably later in the year.”

In other news, Metallica are serving as this year’s official Record Store Day Ambassador. The group will perform at the Rasputin Music record store in Berkeley, California, Saturday in conjunction with Record Store Day. The day prior, the guys will unleash deluxe reissues of their first two albums, 1983’s “Kill ‘Em All” and 1984’s “Ride the Lightning.”
