System of a Down ‘Communicating’ About New Music, Says Serj Tankian

Story by Cat Badra
There’s hope for new System of a Down music.
System of a Down fans, don’t fear. New music from the alt-metal band isn’t completely out of the question. Although the guys haven’t talked much about releasing a new album at any point soon, singer Serj Tankian does say that the band members are “communicating” and even tunes being played to each other.
“There’s definitely a lot of communication going on, a lot of back and forth,” Tankian told Rolling Stone. “I can’t make a statement in terms of whether we’re going to have a record or not, because we haven’t gone into the studio and done it. But there’s definitely communication going on, songs being played to each other and all that stuff, so it’s good. We’ll see what happens.”
He added, “I think it would be great to create something brand new in a new direction. It would be very exciting, but everyone’s got to be on board, on the same page, and it’s got to be done in a way so that everyone is happy. If we can do that, we’ll do it.”
Whenever it arrives, System of a Down’s new album will mark their follow-up to 2005’s “Hypnotize.” Even the group hasn’t released new music in more than a decade, they have been performing shows, including last year’s Wake Up the Souls tour.
