Pearl Jam Performs with Dennis Rodman in Chicago
Pearl Jam rocks ‘Black, Red, Yellow’ with basketball star Dennis Rodman
Pearl Jam closed out its summer headlining tour in a big way Monday night (Aug. 22) with a second concert at Chicago’s Wrigley Field, and the show packed a surprise. Eddie Vedder and the guys performed their song “Black, Red, Yellow” – which many believe is written about the famed ‘90s Chicago Bulls teams – and during the song, former Chicago Bulls star Dennis Rodman joined the group on stage for a special stint.
Things even got funny when Vedder jumped into the arms of the Rodman. Fan-recorded footage of the Pearl Jam and the star basketball player performing “Black, Red, Yellow” is up on YouTube.
Pearl Jam are finished with their summer headlining tour dates, but the guys aren’t resting much. Vedder will play a solo set at this weekend’s Ohana festival in California and at the Global Citizen Festival in September. The rest of Pearl Jam’s members – Jeff Ament, Stone Gossard, Mike McCready and Matt Cameron – are joining forces once again with Soundgarden and Audioslave singer Chris Cornell for Temple of the Dog’s first-ever tour, which will set off in November.
Temple of the Dog was formed in the ‘90s as a tribute to late Mother Love Bone singer Andrew Wood, and while the band released one successful album, they never did a proper tour. No word yet on whether Vedder, who was along involved with Temple of the Dog, will be part of the reunion trek.
