‘Incesticide’ has its own special place in Nirvana’s music catalog

Nirvana’s 1992 compilation album “Incesticide” isn’t one of their more recognized releases, but it’s packed with unique gems and certainly worthy of attention. In that spirit, the set is getting some special treatment for its upcoming 25th anniversary in the form of a vinyl reissue.

The two-LP “Incesticide” reissue will include remastered audio from the original analog master tape and recordings. The collection will arrive Jan. 13.

“Incesticide” arrived in Nirvana’s discography on Dec. 12, 1992, roughly one year after the band’s seminal sophomore album “Nevermind” turned the group from an underground favorite to a massively successful mainstream rock ‘n’ roll band. The compilation album boasted the non-album single “Sliver,” as well as a range of demos, covers and B-sides. A unique, sped-up version of the Nirvana track “Polly” is a hallmark of the release.

Nirvana’s third and final studio album, “In Utero,” dropped on Sept. 21, 1993. Frontman Kurt Cobain died on April 5, 1994, tragically ending Nirvana’s story.

The 25th anniversary edition of “Incesticide” is available for pre-order now via Amazon. It’s worth noting that since the album is coming out in January of 2017, that’s almost a full year before “Incesticide” actually turns 25 years old.
