Interview: Meet Radkey, a Missouri band that brings together punk and garage rock

Radkey is the hot new band on the block. Hailing from Missouri, the band – which includes the brothers guitarist Dee, bass player Isaiah and drummer Soloman – have a catchy, punk-infused garage rock sound that recalls several different musical eras.

Now, the band is in the middle of a U.S. tour, which reaches The Pike Room in Pontiac, Michigan, tonight (Dec. 9). Next year looks even bigger for Radkey, as the guys have a high-profile gig lined up at the rock and metal festival Rock on the Range 2017 in Columbus, Ohio.

Isaiah checked in with Audio Ink Radio before The Pike Room show to talk about the current tour and Radkey’s future.

Anne Erickson: You guys are smack dab in the middle of a U.S. tour and hit the Pike Room in Pontiac on Dec. 9. How’s the tour going?

Isaiah: The tours been amazing. The Fame Riot have been supporting us, and they’re awesome. We’ve never toured the U.S. with anyone supporting us before, so this has been killer.

Congratulations on the upcoming Rock on the Range gig! What bands are you most excited to check out at the festival? I noticed you guys mentioned Primus online.

So excited to see Primus. Also, Red Fang, Soundgarden and the Offspring.

This band has got a great garage rock sound. Who are some of your musical heroes?

Definitely Weezer, Nirvana, Led Zeppelin and the Ramones—stuff like that.

Your new album is called “Delicious Rock Noise.” How would you describe the sound you guys cranked out on a live set?

Loud, hard, fast and catchy is what we’re pretty much always going for.

What are your hopes for Radkey going forward into 2017?

We’re hoping to play a lot more shows and to start working on the next record. We have so many ideas from all of the touring that we’re ready to start trying out.
