The new Green Day film features Metallica, Guns N’ Roses and AFI members

The Green Day gang is joining forces with a company called Abramorama to distribute an upcoming film, “Turn It Around: The Story of East Bay Punk.” The film will arrive in conjunction with Green Day’s summer 2017 North American tour in movie theaters and streaming platforms.

This film is the real deal, as Green Day’s band members are credited as executive producers. Abramorama are listed as “specialists at handling marketing and distribution for music driven long-form documentaries.”

“‘Turn it Around’ gave us the opportunity to tell the story of the East Bay punk rock scene, a scene that’s a sacred thing to me, Mike (Dirnt) and Tré (Cool) and to a lot of others who were there at the founding and who helped to shape the genre,” frontman Billie Joe Armstrong said in a statement. “We’re proud to bring the history of this movement to the world and hope the film inspires people to create their own music and to build an artistic community.”

Drummer Tre Cool added that Green Day’s success has come with a “responsibility that goes along with it. I think that we respect more now than we did when we were probably younger, you know, when ‘Dookie’ was around, going crazy. It is like a responsibility and we sort of feel like this kinship with all the fans.”

Iggy Pop narrates “Turn It Around.” The film also features interviews with the members of Green Day, as well as Metallica’s Kirk Hammett, Guns N’ Roses’ Duff McKagan, AFI’s Davey Havok, Rancid’s Tim Armstrong and more.

The movie looks at more than 30 years of the California Bay Area’s punk music history. It’s major focus is on the creation of Berkeley’s 924 Gilman Street music collective.
