Charlie Benante of Anthrax has good things to say about the Big Four bands—especially Metallica

The guys of Anthrax have spent much of this year on the road, doing dates on the Killthrax tour earlier this year with Killswitch Engage and the Devil Wears Prada, as well as festival gigs at Chicago Open Air and beyond.

While on tour, drummer Charlie Benante spoke with Anne Erickson with Audio Ink about everything from his coffee company to the band’s current full-length, “For All Kings.”

When asked by about what classic metal bands he thinks really stand out, he had some shining words to say about the band’s thrash metal brothers in the Big Four of metal bands—especially Metallica. Thrash guys stick together, right?

In the interview, Anne asked, “Of the metal bands that have been around as long as Anthrax, what other bands do you think have done a good job of consistently releasing new music and staying popular?”

Bentante replied, “The Big Four bands. (The Big Four refers to the legendary metal bands Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer and Anthrax.) I think they do a good job. And every day, I see something new about Metallica. I think Metallica really give their audience a lot. And I think they do it well.”

“That machine is well-oiled, and I think they do it right,” he added.

Metallica is also on the road this year, playing stadiums and arenas on their tour in support of 2016’s “Hardwired…to Self-Destruct.”
