The Dragonforce guys are gearing up for an appearance at Chicago Open Air

Chicago Open Air festival is coming up July 14 through 16 at Toyota Park in Bridgeview, Illinois, right outside of Chicago. The bill features a wide range of metal and hard rock acts, including Ozzy Osbourne, Megadeth, Kiss, Korn and Stone Sour, to name a handful.

British power metal titans DragonForce will perform at Chicago Open Air Saturday, July 15. It’s a gig they’ve been looking forward to playing for a long time.

When asked who DragonForce bass player Frederic Leclercq is most stoked to see perform at the festival, he says it’s really all about if he’ll even be able to fit watching other bands perform into his schedule.

“You know, really, it’s all about if we have time to catch their performance or not!” he told Anne Erickson of Audio Ink Radio. “Sure, it’s great to be on the same list as, say Megadeth, but what truly matters to me is, am I going to be able to see the show? Am I going to be able to say hi and catch up? Because we have to get ready for our own show, do press and also catch our breath after the set. So, I don’t know.”

“My girlfriend gets more excited than I do when she sees which bands are on the bill,” Leclercq added. “We have done lots of metal festivals in Europe with incredible bills and usually I only got to see one or two bands.”

Even if Leclercq doesn’t have time to see any of the other groups perform at Chicago Open Air, he’s thrilled for the overall experience.

“I’m more excited for the fans, because they have a large choice of bands to choose from, and for them, it’s great!” Leclercq added. “But if I had to choose and could go and see who I want, I’d watch Megadeth, Ozzy, Kiss, Behemoth, Vimic, Anthrax, Steel Panther…yeah, I’d go and see most of them, really!”
