Tool New Album Update: ‘We’re About 90% There,’ Says Bass Player
Tool bass player Justin Chancellor gives hope for a new album from the band
Maynard James Keenan and the Tool gang have treated fans to a handful of concerts this year (view exclusive photos from the band’s Detroit tour stop here), but what about new music? That’s a question that’s not going away anytime soon.
For years now, Tool have told fans new music is on the way, but fans have never gotten a real timeline. Now, in a new interview with Metal Sucks, bass player Justin Chancellor have given some hopeful news on new music, stating the band is “about 90%” finished with writing the follow-up to “10,000 Days” and will likely start recording soon.
“We’re about 90% there,” he said when asked about the album arrangements. “Ya know, it’s been like a crazy science project… We’ve just been really picky with what we want to put on this new album and really want to come up with something really unique. Plus, we have endless amounts of material to sift through.”
Chancellor added that he expects the Tool gents to start recording the new record after they wrap up their current tour.
“The last couple of weeks, being on the road and playing together this year, we’ve really hit a new level, I’d say,” he said. “Really excited to be around each other. We’re gonna just bang it out when we get back home. We’re ready to go (with) the album”
Tool actually did just wrap up their scheduled shows for 2017 with a gig in Southern California with Primus and the Melvins. If we’re to believe Chancellor, that means the guys should start recording the new album soon.
