Pearl Jam and Soundgarden Drummer Matt Cameron to Release Solo Album

Matt Cameron of Pearl Jam and Soundgarden is gearing up to release his solo debut

You already know him as one of grunge rock’s most high-profile drummers, and now, Matt Cameron is getting ready to go solo. Cameron, who has served as drummer for both Pearl Jam and Soundgarden, will release his debut solo album, “Cavedweller,” later this month.

Pearl Jam’s Twitter account has tweeted out a 90-second preview of what to expect from “Cavedweller” via a video clip. Take a listen below. The song “Time Can’t Wait” is also streaming via Rolling Stone.

Speaking with Rolling Stone, Cameron said the album was finished before Soundgarden frontman Chris Cornell passed away.

“I played some of it for him last March,” Cameron said. “He really liked it. He was always very supportive of me writing music for the band and kind of going for it. That was great. And I played some of it for Eddie and he really liked it, too. That felt great.”

Cameron became a member of Soundgarden in 1986 and performed on all six of the group’s albums. Following Soundgarden’s initial breakup in 1997, Cameron became a member of Pearl Jam and has performed on each of the band’s albums since 2000’s “Binaural.” In addition to Soundgarden and Pearl Jam, Cameron also played drums in the Seattle supergroup Temple of the Dog.

Cameron sings lead vocals on all of “Cavedweller,” which is certainly a new phenomenon for him, since he has served as a drummer for so long. “Cavedweller” will arrive on Sept. 22.

In other news, one week after the release of “Cavedweller,” Pearl Jam’s new movie “Let’s Play Two,” a documentary surrounding the group’s two gigs at Chicago’s Wrigley Field in August 2016, will reach theaters.
