Tool Has Recorded a New Version of ‘Opiate,’ Says Adam Jones
It’s not quite a Tool new album announcement, but guitarist Adam Jones has revealed that the band recently went into the studio to record a new arrangement of their 1992 song “Opiate.” The major difference, according to Jones, is that the new version is longer than the original version. Hear a clip of the song on Jones’ Instagram page.
“We recorded a new version of ‘Opiate’ not too long ago,” Jones wrote in the Instagram post. “We wrote a different break down that’s about five minutes longer in the middle of the song.”
Not only did Tool record a new rendition of “Opiate,” but Jones says the band also filmed a music video for the new version of the song. The band also performed the elongated track on tour this year.
Meanwhile, fans are still waiting for Tool’s follow-up to their 2006 album, “10,000 Days.” While specifics on the new record remain fairly secret, band members have confirmed the new music is in the works.
Tool toured North America earlier this year, performing a mix of festival and headlining shows. Now, frontman Maynard James Keenan is out with his other band, A Perfect Circle, who just unleashed a new song called “The Doomed.” That song will appear on A Perfect Circle’s upcoming album, which is expected to arrive in 2018.
