A Perfect Circle New Album Update: We’re ‘Well Over the Midway Point,’ Says Billy Howerdel
A Perfect Circle is currently touring the U.S., smack dab in the middle of a fall run, but that doesn’t mean the band isn’t thinking about new music. Guitarist Billy Howerdel says that the group is “well over the midway point” with the new release, according to a new interview with Billboard, and the band is “still working.”
“I’ve got a studio on the road, and Maynard (James Keenan)’s still working and he’s still writing,” Howerdel said of the writing process for the upcoming album, which will mark the follow-up to A Perfect Circle’s 2004 release, “eMOTIVe.”
“It’s tough on the road; I knew it was gonna be hard, but it’s been tougher than I thought it would be to get in a groove and keep going,” he added. “But we’re about to have a stretch here in about a week when I think it’s going to be time to get a lot done.”
Last month, the guys unleashed a fresh single, “The Doomed,” which will arrive on the upcoming album. Howerdel says the band has been working on 15 new songs for the set. “From there we might cut away, but new things pop up all the time, too,” he added.
As for “The Doomed,” Howerdel says the track came together swiftly and easily. “I just kind of presented a little snippet to Maynard and he thought there was something there and asked me to kind of flesh it out into a song,” Howerdel explained. “So I came back with a song and he wrote it quickly, and that’s one of those song that came together quicker than most.”
