Tool New Album Update: ‘We’re Closer,’ Says Maynard James Keenan
It’s only February, and this year has already been filled with speculation about just when Tool will finally unveil a new album. While the band has hinted over the years at working on new music, there’s been more chatter this year than ever, and that has fans at a fever pitch when it comes to news about new Tool.
Most recently, Adam Jones said the fresh music was “done,” and now, frontman Maynard James Keenan has taken to Twitter to announce that he has written the lyrics and melodies for all but one song.
In Keenan’s pair of tweets, he explains that he “started getting music files from the boys (with) the word final in the title a few months ago after 11 years of begging,” adding that the tracks shouldn’t change while he’s writing vocals to go with them. Keenan adds that he’s still waiting for the final one, and while Tool is a “long way from the finish line, but at least we’re closer.” The most exciting part of the tweets for fans is where Keenan states, “Words and melodies 100% done on all but (one).”
Whenever Tool’s new album arrives, it will mark the band’s highly-anticipated follow-up to 2006’s “10,000 Days.” In the meantime, he reminds fans that the new album from his other band, A Perfect Circle, is due out on April 20. The upcoming album from that band, titled “Eat the Elephant,” will be that group’s follow-up to 2004’s “eMOTIVe.”
Both Tool and A Perfect Circle are slated to perform at the 2018 Rock on the Range music festival in Columbus, Ohio, in May.
…but way ahead. Words & Melodies 100% DONE on all but 1. Someday we’ll track them. Long way from the finish line, but at least we’re closer. Meanwhile new @aperfectcircle release on 4/20. #whileyouwerewhiningiwasworking #theresyourupdate #eattheelephant #aperfectcircle2018
