Dave Grohl of Foo Fighters on If He Would Run for President
Dave Grohl answers the big question: ‘Would he run for president?’
Would Dave Grohl ever run for president? It may sound rediculous, but some fans and friends have suggested it to him. After all, he’s the nicest guy in rock ‘n’ roll, and pretty much everybody loves him, so why not channel that sparkling personality into politics? But if you ask him, Grohl will tell you politics isn’t for him.
“(Foo drummer) Taylor (Hawkins) and I talked about this the other day,” Grohl said in a new interview with British GQ. “He said, ‘You need to be president and run for office.'” Grohl went onto say he would never, ever do it. “…I’m not doing an Oprah. I’m not going to go, ‘Well, you never know.'”
So, what does Grohl think about the United States of America’s sitting president? Well, when asked, he told the publication that he thinks Donald Trump “just seems like a massive jerk.”
“I am ashamed of our president,” Grohl added. “I feel apologetic for it when I travel.”
Switching gears to Grohl’s time in Nirvana, he says it’s still hard for him to listen to Nirvana albums, following what happened to frontman Kurt Cobain. The singer passed away more then 20 years ago of suicide.
“I don’t put Nirvana records on, no,” Grohl said. “Although they are always on somewhere. I get in the car, they’re on. I go into a shop, they’re on.”
“For me, it’s so personal,” he added. “I remember everything about those records; I remember the shorts I was wearing when we recorded them or that it snowed that day. Still, I go back and find new meanings to Kurt’s lyrics. Not to seem revisionist, but there are times when it hits me. You go, ‘Wow, I didn’t realize he was feeling that way at the time.'”
