Disturbed Frontman David Draiman on ‘Evolution’: To Me, This Is Our ‘Black’ Album
The upcoming album from Disturbed, ‘Evolution,’ is a huge one for the guys, says David Draiman
The guys of Disturbed are coming up on the release of a much-anticipated new album, “Evolution,” set to arrive this fall. If you ask frontman David Draiman, it’s a big album for Disturbed. In a new interview with Metal Hammer, Draiman compares “Evolution” to Metallica’s groundbreaking 1991 self-titled album, aka “The Black Album.”
“If I died after this record came out and this was the end of our legacy, I’d be OK with that,” Draiman said in the chat. “To me, this is our Black Album.”
“We’ve always used that as a goal — the record that literally every single track on it could be a hit,” he added. “A record that breaks doors down, that opens up new opportunities to us, that helps you achieve true immortality as an artist.”
“Evolution” will mark Disturbed’s follow-up to the group’s 2015 studio album, “Immortalized.” That album garnered the guys a Grammy nomination for their haunting cover of the Simon & Garfunkel tune, “The Sound of Silence.” The fact that cover song did so well has made Draiman relalize that Disturbed “shouldn’t be afraid of pushing the boundaries.”
“We’ve been hungering for years to do material like what we’ve done on (‘Evolution’),” Draiman said.
The deluxe edition of “Evolution” will arrive with a live recording of “The Sound of Silence” with Alter Bridge and Slash frontman Myles Kennedy.
“Evolution,” which already has a hit rock single in “Are You Ready,” will drop on Oct. 19. Disturbed is expected to spend much of next year touring behind “Evolution,” and this year, they performed just a handful of shows.
