Foo Fighters, Dave Matthews, Carlos Santana to Play Neil Young’s Bridge School Benefit

Dave Grohl, Beck, Mumford and Songs and more make music for a good cause

The 25th anniversary of Neil Young’s first Bridge School Benefit Concert takes place Oct. 22-23 at the Shoreline Amphitheatre in Mountain View, Calif. The show raises funds for the school Young, his wife Pegi and Dr. Marilyn Buzolich started back in 1986 to help Neil and Pegi’s son Ben. As for the lineup, it’s packed with some of popular music’s biggest players, including a crop of alternative rockers.

On the slate are Dave Grohl and the Foo Fighters (Sunday only), Arcade Fire, Eddie Vedder (of Pearl Jam), Tony Bennett (Sunday only), Dave Matthews, Carlos Santana, Beck, Mumford and Sons and Diana Krall (Sunday only).

Tickets for the two-day festival go on sale on Sept. 16 through Live Nation. All of the proceeds will benefit the school, which helps kids who are disabled and have communication or speech difficulties.

The debut Bridge School concert took place in 1986 and featured Bruce Springsteen, Tom Petty and Crosby, Stills and Nash. The event has been a tradition every year, except 1987. Acts conventionally play acoustic sets for the Bridge School, but there have been plenty exceptions and surprises over the years. Last year’s event included the reunion of Buffalo Springfield, ending an over 40 hiatus. Great, classic music from rock v vets such as Dave Grohl and Beck, combined with helping a good cause?
