Of Mice & Men on New Album: ‘We Decided to Go Heavier’

Of Mice & Men is working on the follow-up to “Defy,” and the new tunes are shaping up to be heavy

Of Mice & Men is already working on the follow of to the band’s latest album, “Defy,” which is actually is less than a year old. The metal guys have confirmed that they’re currently in the studio, writing and recording tunes with producer Josh Wilbur, who has produced heavy albums by Korn, Gojira and more. That said, the new album is taking a heavier direction.

“We’re super pumped to be in the studio with Josh, as we’re all big fans of his production and mix discography,” vocalist and bass player Aaron Pauley said in a statement. “When we decided to go heavier with this album, Josh’s was one of the first names to pop up — and I can tell you, we’re a little over halfway done and it’s sounding huge and heavy, heavenly and absolutely demonic — all rolled into one.”

Of Mece & Men will tour Europe this fall alongside Bullet for My Valentine, and they’ll embark on a North American trek early next year with Nothing More.

“We’re excited to have also announced that we’re touring the U.S. next year with Nothing More. Come to a show, and bang your head,” Pauley said.

“Defy” marked Of Mice & Men’s first album with Pauley in the lead singer role, following the departure of Austin Carlile. It scored a pair of rock radio singles in “Back to Me” and a cover of Pink Floyd’s “Money.”

Of Mice & Men drummer Valentino Arteaga recently spoke with Audio Ink Radio about “Defy” and the album’s musical direction.

Of the new album, he said, “I just love the way the the album flows. I’ve actually been listening to it all week, and we’ve been doing signings all weekend, so we’ve been hearing it all day, and it’s been cool hearing it front to back and hearing it as a whole. I think every song is a moment, and it’s really cool to experience each one all over again. I love the album as whole, really.”
