Albuquerque Mayor Sports Pantera Sweater While Signing Bill
New Mexico mayor Tim Keller isn’t afraid to show off his love for metal band Pantera
As 2018 drew to a close, public officials everywhere were in a pinch to sign legislation into law before 2019 hit. Sometimes, that means signing bills in pajamas– even metal-loving pajamas. New Mexico mayor Tim Keller is one of those public officials, who showed his love for Pantera while signing one of the final bills of the year.
As 2018 entered its final days, Keller signed a bill giving city employees up to 12 weeks of paid parental leave, and he did so wearing a festive Pantera Christmas sweater. Yes, Pantera, as in the metal band Pantera.
Taking his love for Pantera one step further, in a tweet, Keller thanked Pantera bass player and New Mexico resident Rex Brown for the Christmas sweater. Brown tweeted back, saying the mayor was a “fearless, ingenious leader and friend.”
This isn’t Keller’s first time sharing his love for the metal music genre. Albuquerque residents have long known him as a metal enthusiast. He even told the New York Times article earlier this year that he loved rocking out to bands such as Anthrax, Ozzy Osbourne and Sepultura.
“Albuquerque has always been pretty strong on the heavy metal front,” Keller told the publication. “What can I say, this is something I’ve been into for a long time.”
Not every city has a mayor with a #Pantera Christmas sweater, much less a mayor who would wear it. But ours did to a press conference, and that’s why we love him. (also kudos @MayorKeller for signing my bill to give 12 weeks of leave to new parents in @CABQ !) #momlife #dadlife pic.twitter.com/C0RUqSYTnU
