Radiohead Frontman Thom Yorke on If He’ll Attend the Rock Hall Induction
Will Thom Yorke be at the Rock Hall induction to celebrate his band, Radiohead, getting the honors?
Radiohead will officially be inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame this year, but frontman Thom Yorke won’t be able to make it to the induction ceremony due to a scheduling conflict. Yorke tells Variety that he has penned a special piano piece for the Paris Philharmonic, and he needs to be at its debut.
“I can’t,” Yorke said when asked about attending the Rock Hall induction. “I know I can’t, because of these piano pieces that I’ve written. There’s the Paris Philharmonic, so I have to be there for that.”
When asked more about the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame honors, Yorke has mixed feelings, but after learning more about the Rock Hall, thinks it’s “cool.”
“We’ve always been very blasé about that stuff,” Yorke explained to Variety. “So we don’t want to offend anyone. We just think that we just don’t quite understand it.”
“We’ve had it explained to us, so it’s cool,” he added. “But we don’t really understand it as English people. I think our problem is essentially that every awards ceremony in the U.K. stinks.”
Yorke also said that his thoughts on awards shows in general stems from the U.K.’s version of the Grammys, the Brits, which he doesn’t seem very fond of.
Switching gears, Yorke seems pretty happy about his nomination at this year’s Oscars. His song “Suspirium,” which he created for the movie “Suspiria,” has been talked about as a possible Best Original Song contender.
“The Oscar thing makes a bit more sense, I guess, because I’ve had it explained to me a bit more,” Yorke added. “I mean, I hope it gets nominated. Sometimes it’s nice to be recognized. Sometimes, if you understand what it means.”
