Mike Shinoda on New Linkin Park Singer: ‘If It Were to Happen Organically, I’d Be Open’
Mike Shinoda says Linkin Park isn’t actively looking for a new vocalist, but they would be open to it
Would Mike Shinoda be open to continuing the Linkin Park legacy with a new vocalist? Shinoda has been asked that question multiple times lately, and now, the rapper and multi-instrumentalist has cleared up comments that he made about the possibility of Linkin Park continuing with a new vocalist taking over for the late Chester Bennington.
In a recent interview with Germany’s Rock Antenne radio station, Shinoda said that while finding a new vocalist is “not my goal right now,” if the remaining members of Linkin Park were to “find somebody that is a great person that we think is a good personality fit and a good stylistic fit,” then he could “see trying to do some stuff with somebody.”
After those comments, some fans interpreted that to mean “Linkin Park is actively searching for a new singer,” which Shinoda says is not the case.
“Lemme clarify a rumor: we are not looking for a new singer, and if it were to happen organically, I’d be open,” Shinoda stated on Twitter. “Seems pretty clear, yet I guess some folks have a hard time understanding.”
“I’m not into predicting the future. The future will happen,” he added.
The last time the remaining members of Linkin Park performed together was at the Chester Bennington memorial concert in October 2017, which honored the life and legacy of the vocalist. Lately, Shinoda has been staying busy on the road, touring in support of his debut solo album, “Post Traumatic.”
