“Serving the Servant,” the new book about the life of Kurt Cobain, will arrive in April

A new book about the life and trials of Kurt Cobain named “Serving the Servant” will drop in April. An excerpt from the book, which is written by Nirvana manager Danny Goldberg, is available now at RollingStone.com.

The excerpt discusses the time right before the release of Nirvana’s sophomore breakout album, “Nevermind,” and the album’s hit single, “Smells Like Teen Spirit.” Goldberg says Cobain had mixed feelings regarding the promotional work behind “Nevermind” and it’s eventual explosion into the mainstream.

“On a personal level, Kurt wanted a success that was acceptable to all the facets of his inner teenager,” Goldberg states in the book.

“He identified deeply with outcasts whose sense of self was wrapped up in being part of a small subculture,” he added. “But he also embraced the joy of being part of a large audience who could come together around an anthemic chorus or a powerful riff.”

The book features Goldberg’s personal thoughts about Cobain’s experiences during the breakout time for Nirvana, as well as interviews with important people in Kurt’s life, including Nirvana band mate Krist Novoselic hand Cobain’s wife Courtney Love.

“Serving the Servant” will arrive April 2, three days before the 25th anniversary of Cobain’s tragic passing.
