Static-X Announces ‘Project Regeneration’ Album, Singer Xer0’s Identity Possibly Revealed

Static-X will release their “Project Regeneration” album featuring the final vocals from Wayne Static in May 2020

Static-X has gathered up the final recordings from their late frontman Wayne Static and put them together into a new album. The set, called “Project Regeneration,” will arrive on May 29, 2020.

The first single off the new album, “Hollow,” is streaming now via YouTube. Listen to the song below.

Static-X initially brought up the idea for “Project Regeneration” back in October 2018. The forthcoming album will feature vocals and compositions created by Static before he passed away in 2014 and also bring together the group’s original lineup of bass player Tony Campos, guitarist Koichi Fukuda and drummer Ken Jay.

According to the band, the upcoming album will feature Wayne’s lead vocals on almost every track. Previously, “Project Regeneration” was expected to highlight mostly guest singers.

In other news, Static-X recently toured North America in honor of the 20th anniversary of the band’s 1999 debut album, “Wisconsin Death Trip.” Taking the place of Static was an anonymous, masked singer called “Xer0,” whose mask looked a lot like Wayne. Now, that identity has possibly been revealed. Earlier this week, Danish magazine Metal A Day posted photos of Dope and Zer0 from the two bands’ joint Oct. 7 show in Hamburg, Germany, and photographer Anders Groos Mikkelsen pointed out a similarity between the neck tattoos, implying that Dope singer Edsel Dope is the masked vocalist. No official statement from the band regarding the singer’s identity has been released yet.

Static-X’s “Wisconsin Death Trip” tour is currently in Europe and will head back the U.S. for another round of tour dates in November.
