Metallica’s big countdown clock led to the news that the metal band will perform two sets at every 2020 Danny Wimmer music festival

Metallica teased fans this week with a special countdown clock, counting down to the announcement of something they claimed to be very big.

Well, the news is out, and a lot of fans guessed correctly: the metal greats will be headlining a crop of rock festivals in 2020, and all of the events are put together by independent festival producer Danny Wimmer Presents.

“Metallica isn’t just another headliner. When Metallica takes the stage, it’s an event. It’s an experience,” Wimmer said in a statement. “That’s the same standard we’ve set for every DWP festival – from the first band to the last band, and everything that happens in between. I can’t wait to bring the biggest band in the world to the biggest rock festivals in America.”

He added, “Metallica paved this road that we travel. How many artists on the bill at these five festivals first picked up an instrument, or first started a band, because of Metallica?”

The festivals include Charlotte, North Carolina’s Epicenter; Daytona Beach, Florida’s Welcome to Rockville; Columbus, Ohio’s Sonic Temple; Louisville, Kentucky’s Louder than Life; and Sacramento, California’s Aftershock. Watch the official announcement video below.

Metallica won’t just headline the festivals– the band will also perform two sets at each festival with two different set lists. The five festival shows are also the only North American festival shows Metallica will perform in 2020.

Tickets for the festivals will go on sale starting at noon ET on Monday (Oct. 14). Head to MetallicaXX.com for more information.
