Slash, Ozzy Osbourne, Gene Simmons Appear in New Documentary on L.A. Venue The Rainbow
“The Rainbow” tells the history of the popular Sunset Strip music venue by the same name, as well as the Whiskey a Go Go, which is just down the street
A new documentary on legendary rock venue The Rainbow will feature appearances from Ozzy Osbourne, KISS’ Gene Simmons and Slash, among other major rock and metal musicians. The documentary, simply called “The Rainbow,” tells the history of the longstanding Sunset Strip watering hole The Rainbow Bar & Grill and the Whisky a Go Go nightclub, which is just down the street. The documentary will arrive on demand and as a digital video beginning Oct. 29.
“The Rainbow” also tells the story of Mario Maglieri, who co-founded and co-owned The Rainbow and The Whisky until 2017, when he passed away. His son and grandson, Mikael and Mikey, are now running the venues. Many Los Angeles musicians credit Mario with helping them get on their feet in the LA music scene. Other musicians who appear in the film include former Guns N’ Roses drummer Matt Sorum, Lita Ford, The Monkees’ Micky Dolenz and Motorhead frontman Lemmy Kilmister shortly before Lemmy passed away. The Rainbow was known as Kilmister’s favorite L.A. music venue, and a lounge was even named after him after he passed away in 2016.
“Telling the story of The Rainbow Bar & Grill, The Whisky a Go Go and the Maglieri family in this film has been a great honor and one that truly represents the history of rock ‘n’ roll in America,” Matthew Perniciaro, a producer of the film, said in a statement.
