Brian May of Queen Says He Suffered a ‘Small Heart Attack’ Over the Weekend
Brian May of Queen says that following recent surgery to have stents placed in three coronary arteries, he is “ready to rock”
Queen guitarist Brian May recently experienced “a small heart attack” and had surgery to have stents placed in three coronary arteries, which were partially blocked .
May announced the news Sunday (May 25) via social media and on his official website, adding that he had the heart attack dealing with another health problem: leg pain that he assumed was a muscle issue. He later found out it was pain resulting from a compressed sciatic nerve.
“[I]t’s not something that did me any harm,” May said, speaking of the heart attack. “It was about 40 minutes of pain in the chest and tightness, and that feeling in the arms and sweating.”
May added that he was given the choice to have open-heart surgery or have stents put in the blood vessels.
“[A]fter a lot of thought and deliberation, I opted for the stents,” he said. “And the…same day, I went in there and they did it. And it wasn’t that easy, but the only reason it wasn’t easy for me was because of…the excruciating pain I had in my leg.”
May added, “I walked out with a heart that’s very strong now, so I think I’m in good shape for some time to come. And if I’m not, we can have another angiogram.”
As of right now, May assures fans, “I’m good, I’m here, and I’m ready to rock.”
