AC/DC’s ‘Power Up’ Scores No. 1 Debut on Billboard 200 Albums Chart
Congratulations are in order for AC/DC, whose new record, “Power Up,” has notched a No. 1 debut in the U.S.
AC/DC’s “Power Up” is officially a hit. The album from the legendary Australia rock band is the fastest-selling album of 2020 in the U.K. and also debuted at No. 1 on the albums chart, making it the band’s third No. 1 on the chart.
“Power Up” debuted at No. 1 the U.K.’s Official Album Chart with a total of 62,000 copies sold. That earned them the best opening sales week for any album released outside of the U.K. this year. As for the U.S., the new album pushed 117,000 equivalent album units in the U.S. in the week ending Nov. 19, according to Nielsen Music/MRC Data, putting it at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 albums chart. Who says rock is dead?
“A very big thank you to everyone who put in their time, effort and creativity to get Power Up to Number 1!” guitarist Angus Young said in a statement. “Also a big shoutout to all our fans, old and new. You are, and always have been, our guiding inspiration.”
“Power Up” marked AC/DC’s much-anticipated follow-up to 2014’s “Rock or Bust.” The album brings together the surviving members of AC/DC’s classic “Back in Black” lineup, including Angus, singer Brian Johnson, bass player Cliff Williams and drummer Phil Rudd, as well as guitarist Stevie Young, who is the nephew of Angus and the late Malcolm Young. AC/DC have stated “Power Up” is a tribute to Malcolm, who passed away in 2017.
