Green Day ‘Writing a Lot’ of New Music, Says Billie Joe Armstrong
Even though Green Day recently released a new album, “Father of All…,” they’re already getting to work on more new music
Green Day released their latest studio album “Father of All…,” back in February, and under normal circumstances, it would be too early to start thinking about the album’s follow up. But, 2020 is not normal circumstances, and the guys says new music could be on the way, due to the ongoing coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong tells NME that he’s been “writing a lot” during the coronavirus lockdown situation. With no touring, there wasn’t much else for a musician to do.
“I’m always putting something together, whether it’s a full demo in my small studio or just some voice notes on my phone,” Armstrong said. “The great thing about this is that if I ever feel creatively blocked, I can just do a cover, just to keep the momentum going.”
He added that “it’s possible” a new Green Day album will come out of the new writing sessions. “Whether we do a full-length album or an EP or just a song, we have a lot of different options,” Armstrong said. “It’s a matter of whenever the right moment happens. That’s the beauty of the way you can put music out these days. You don’t have to wait for any gatekeeper to tell you that the timing is right.”
In other news, Armstrong will release his “No Fun Mondays” covers compilation album this Friday (Nov. 27). He originally recorded and released the covers songs over the summer and it now compiling them into a special collection.
