Foo Fighters’ Dave Grohl Thanks Save Our Stages Supporters

Dave Grohl is thanking music fans who have supported the Save Our Stages Act, which is included in the COVID-19 stimulus package and offers funding to independent performance venues that have been negatively impacted by the pandemic. The $900 billion bill, which is part of the stimulus bill that Congress recently passed and President Trump signed into law on Sunday (Dec. 27), offers approximately $10 billion for independent concert venues in Section 324, “Grants For Shuttered Venue Operators.”
“The preservation of America’s smaller, independent venues is not only crucial to the millions of concert goers whose lives are bettered by experiencing their favorite artists in the flesh, but to the future of music itself,” Grohl said in a statement. “It gives the next generation of young musicians a place to cut their teeth, hone their craft, and grow into the voices of tomorrow.”
Grohl’s band Foo Fighters were one of the many bands whose 2020 tour plans were delayed due to the pandemic. The Foos eventually canceled their 25th anniversary tour, as well as a major July 4 concert outside Washington, D.C.
“The absence of live music this year has left us all longing for that communal feeling of connection, one that is best felt when joined in a song,” Grohl said. “The Save Our Stages Act brings us one step closer to sharing that feeling again, one that I hope we can all experience again very soon. Everyday we’re one step closer.”
Grohl has been vocal about his passion for live music this year. He recently wrote an op-ed in The Atlantic about the importance of live music and why local venues need support during the pandemic. Earlier this year, Foo Fighters also performed at a virtual music festival in support of the National Independent Venue Association.
