The Wallflowers Detail New Album, ‘Exit Wounds’

Jakob Dylan and The Wallflowers are back with a new album, “Exit Wounds,” featuring 10 original tracks

It’s been roughly a decade since The Wallflowers released a new album, but that time has finally come. The longstanding pop-rockers have announced they’ll drop a new full-length album, “Exit Wounds,” July 9.

Jakob Dylan and the crew debuted the album’s first single, “Roots and Wings,” on ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel Live! last week, and the studio recording is available now digital retailers. The Wallflowers last studio album was 2012’s “Glad All Over.”

“I think everybody — no matter what side of the aisle you’re on — wherever we’re going to next, we’re all taking a lot of exit wounds with us,” Dylan said in a statement. “Nobody is the same as they were four years ago. That, to me, is what Exit Wounds signifies.”

For “Exit Wounds,” Dylan brought together a backing band of ““people that I’ve wanted to play with or that I have played with through the years… This was not the type of thing where it’s a rotating cast and you call a different drummer for each song, or you pull out the Rolodex and ring the local session guys,” he explained.

He added, “The record was made as a band – the five Wallflowers. It’s just exciting to have guys playing in a room together. That’s how you get the one plus one equals three factor. That’s the magic.”

In other news, The Wallflowers are scheduled to hit the road on a cross-country North American tour with Matchbox Twenty this summer. The tour was originally scheduled for 2020 but postponed due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
