First Pantera Reunion Shows Announced
The reunited Pantera have announced their first handful of performances
After plenty of buzz about the upcoming Pantera so-called reunion tour, we finally have some dates in the books. The initial Pantera reunion shows have been announced in conjunction with Slipknot’s South American Knotfest dates. After that initial announcement, the band was also announced for a Dec. 2 performance at Mexico’s Hell & Heaven Festival and the final Mexico performance from KISS on Dec. 4, so they’re getting some attention.
The reunited Pantera lineup will feature original members Philip Anselmo and Rex Brown along with Zakk Wylde of Black Label Society and Charlie Benante of Anthrax. The dates for Knotfest are Dec. 9 in Colombia; Dec. 11 in Chile; and Dec. 18 in Brazil. As for the Colombia edition, the band will perform alongside Judas Priest, Bring Me the Horizon, Trivium, Hypocrisy, Sepultura, Suicide Silence, Sol and other acts. For the Chile and Brasil Knotfests, Slipknot will join Judas Priest and Pantera as headliners. Those lineups also feature performances from Bring Me the Horizon, Mr. Bungle, Trivium, Sepultura, Motionless in White, Vended and Project 46.
Slipknot and Judas Priest are also slated to perform one-off Knotfest Roadshow dates on Dec. 8 and 13 in Argentina. Those will also mark the first Knotfest shows to ever take place in Argentina.
There’s plenty of controversy surrounding the Pantera reunion. The lineup features two of the band’s four original members, Anselmo and Brown, but without the late Dimebag Darrell and Vinnie Paul, many fans think the spirit won’t be alive. That said, Wylde was close with Dimebag, and Benante is one of metal’s most respected drummers, so they couldn’t have picked better players to round out the reunion lineup. No word yet on if the reunioned group will do a cross-country tour, but it’s rumored.
