Green Day to Release ‘The BBC Sessions’ Live Album in December

Billie Joe Armstrong and the guys of Green Day will release their seminal 1990s and early 2000s BBC performances in an upcoming set

California punk-rockers Green Day were regulars touring the U.K. in the 1990s and early 2000s, and now, the band is readying a new compilation of their BBC Sessions. The new, live album, dubbed “The BBC Sessions,” will feature four special performances that the band performed at the BBC’s Maida Vale Studios in 1994, 1996, 1998 and 2001, to promote their “Dookie,” “Insomniac,” “Nimrod” and “Warning” albums. It was at time when Green Day was blowing up and becoming one of the biggest alternative rock acts in the world.

The first live performance took place on June 8, 1994, four months following when the band’s “Dookie” album dropped. That set featured popular songs such as “She,” “When I Come Around,” “Basket Case” and “2000 Light Years,” all of which were extremely popular in the U.K. at the time.

Later on, Green Day toured the U.K. and brought later hits such as “Brain Stew / Jaded,” “Walking Contradictions,” an F-bomb featuring “Nice Guys Finish Last,” “Minority” and “Waiting,” which are also included in the set.

Green Day’s BBC Session collection will arrive newly mastered on CD, in digital formats and as a 2LP vinyl set with Sea Blue and Hot Pink color options via the band’s official store. Those who it up indie retailers will also find a vinyl version in Milky Clear. The release also features liner notes from BBC Radio 1 host Steve Lamacq, who was part of all the sessions.
