Green Day, AJR, Bring Me the Horizon Pull Russia Concerts Over Ukraine Conflict

Green Day, AJR and Bring Me the Horizon have canceled their upcoming shows in Russia due to the Russian invasion of Ukraine

Billie Joe Armstrong and the gents of Green Day have canceled their upcoming concert in Moscow, Russia, as a result of the Russian invasion of Ukraine. They’re not the only one, as alternative rock band AJR also recently pulled their concert in Russia scheduled for October, stating that the country was involved in “criminal behavior” and asking fans to relay “accurate” information about the war.

As for Green Day, the band took to Instagram on Sunday (Feb. 27), writing, “With heavy hearts, in light of current events we feel it is necessary to cancel our upcoming show in Moscow at Spartak Stadium.” They added, “We are aware that this moment is not about stadium rock shows, it’s much bigger than that. But we also know that rock and roll is forever and we feel confident there will be a time and a place for us to return in the future. Refunds available at the point of purchase. Stay safe.”

AJR’s statement explained, “We are sad to announce that we will be cancelling our upcoming show in Russia. Thank you to our Russian fans who oppose their country’s unprovoked and criminal behavior. Our hearts are with the people of Ukraine. At this point, the best thing you can do is share ACCURATE info.”

Another major act, Bring Me the Horizon, also just canceled their upcoming shows in Russia and Belarus in “solidarity with Ukraine,” according to a social post. “We will be using our platform and voice to what we can to support Ukraine in these incredibly difficult times,” they added.

Russia is a regular destination for rock and metal acts. Other rockers with shows scheduled for the country this year include Khalid, Judas Priest, Disclosure, OneRepublic, Yungblud, Girl in Red, Denzel Curry and OneRepublic, to name a few. Russia also has some major music festivals on the way, including Bol festival and two Park Live festivals. Time will tell if more acts start to pull their shows as the conflict continues.
