Tool Unleash Reimagined Version of 1992 Classic ‘Opiate’
Listen to a new, modern version of the Tool classic “Opiate”
Tool have unearthed a newly reimagined version of “Opiate,” which is available now via all digital platforms. The new release is a fresh rendition of the group’s 1992 song, called “Opiate²,” will be released with a new, short film on Blu-ray on March 18.
The new version of “Opiate²” sounds even more intense than the original track, with each instrument being brought out in the mix and sounding clearer and sharper. It takes “Opiate²” into the new century, offering a more modern sound. Also worth noting is that drummer Danny Carey has an extended solo in the new version, showing off his chops. The upcoming Blu-Ray will come with a 46-page art book packing exclusive behind-the-scenes and making-of photos from the shoot. The film will also feature interviews and stories from special guests. Tool guitarist Adam Jones teamed up with visual artist Dominic Hallstone to help create the short film.
In other news, Tool are currently on a lengthy 2022 tour and plan to stay on the road for much of 2022. “It is with great pleasure I get to announce our return to the road,” Carey said in a statement when the dates were initially announced. “These past 18 months have been trying to say the least but from great trials come great lessons and great rewards. Tool are touring behind their 2019 studio album, “Fear Inoculum.” The record was named one of Audio Ink Radio’s best albums of the decade for 2010-2019.
