Lansing’s Capital City Film Festival Offers Wide Range of Michigan Music

Local Music Beat: The latest edition of the column features the music of the 2022 Capital City Film Festival in Lansing, Michigan

The 2022 Capital City Film Festival in Lansing, Michigan, has kicked off, celebrating artists from around Michigan and beyond. The annual event features a range of art, including live music, independent movies, interactive media and more.

The event kicked off Thursday night (April 7) with a short bill, and it gets into full swing Friday (April 8). Movies and music are scheduled through Saturday, April 16.

When it comes to live music, the festival will boast a wide range of artists from across Michigan. Acts will perform at The Avenue Cafe in downtown Lansing each night of the festival. Find the schedule of music performances below.

All of the Above Creative Takeover
Friday, April 8

AOTA Creative is collective of Michigan artists brought together by their love for Hip Hop culture, community outreach and youth empowerment. Members include Cutt Nice, Ozay Moore (picutred above), Jahshua Smith, Sareem Poems, Y’z Council, James Gardin, Kwaj and Miles Young. Hosted by Joe Walker.

Bonehawk
Friday, April 9

Kalamazoo rock band Bonehawk features a ’70s-inspired psychedelic hard rock sound, with a dash of heavy metal, jam, and blues. BOA and Mr Denton on Doomsday will also perform.

Lipstick Jodi
Thursday, April 14

Lipstick Jodi hail from Grand Rapids and make a delightful indie alt-pop sound. The group is founded and fronted by guitarist and lead singer Karli Morehouse. Dirt Room will open.

Mark Lavengood Band
Friday, April 15

Michigan’s Mark Lavengood wears a variety of hats. According to his Facebook page, he’s a multi-instrumentalist, singer, songwriter, band leader, musical collaborator, entrepreneur and mentor. Special guest Jen Sygit, a Lansing favorite, will also perform.

No Skull
Saturday, April 16

Michigan’s No Skull will bring the metal to the Capital City Film Festival, offering a mix of Black Sabbath and Nirvana, with a very sludgy sound. The Live Music will serve as special guests.

All performances begin at 9 p.m. at The Avenue at 2021 E. Michigan Ave., Lansing. Cover is $5. For more information on the Capital City Film Festival, visit the event’s official website.
