My Chemical Romance Release New Song, ‘The Foundations of Decay’
My Chemical Romance are are back with their first new song in years, “The Foundations of Decay”
It’s been eight years since we’ve gotten a new song from My Chemical Romance, but it’s finally here in the lengthy “The Foundations of Decay.” The song is classic My Chem, featuring six minutes of emo rock with shades of alternative, prog and hardcore.
“The Foundation of Decay” is here at the perfect time, as My Chemical Romance are getting ready to hit the road on their much-anticipated reunion tour. The band broke up in 2013 and then announced their reunion in 2019, performing just one show that December. Then, the pandemic kicked in, preventing their 2020 tour plans. The dates were rescheduled for 2021, but delayed again due to the virus. Now, My Chemical Romance will kick off a U.K. and European tour later this month. Their North American leg will set off Aug. 20 in Oklahoma City.
Whether or not the band planned to release new music wasn’t clear, so today’s new track is something of a pleasant surprise. Frontman Gerard Way has implied that the guys were working on new music, but never mentioned if anything was completed or a possible release date.
My Chemical Romance’s last studio album dropped back in 2010, “Danger Days: The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys.” After the band disbanded, they unleashed the compilation set “May Death Never Stop You” in 2014 featuring a new song, “Fake Your Death.” “The Foundation of Decay” marks their first new music since that release.
