Rains, ‘Look in My Eyes,’ Offers Hard Rock with Melody [Song Review]
Rains’ new single brings melodic post-grunge, dramatic dynamics
Fort Wayne, Ind., hard rock band Rains are on the up. The guys have a new single out, “Look in My Eyes,” that’s caught wind on active rock stations around the country, and the trend continues with their just-announced slot on Five Finger Death Punch’s “Under and Over It Tour,” which they’ll start on Nov. 8 and keep on right through Dec. 18.
On “Look in My Eyes,” frontman Jeff Rains, drummer Andy Ryan, bass player Joe Pitter and guitarist Jason Anderson combine the melodic intervention post-grunge with a sense of dramatic dynamics. It’s all gelled together by soaring vocals, crunchy, crisp axe-work and stick-in-your-head melodies.
The lyrics take you through a journey of fear, love and hesitation, as Rains’ strong, billowing voice cries out during the chorus, “What did you want me to be / When I see you falling / How did you want me to see / Your life and your lying / How did you want me to feel / When I see you trying / Trying so hard to fit in / To the world you are buying.”
“Look in My Eyes” is a nice break from the active rock radio norm, with lyrics that hit the heart and chunky, distortion-mongering riffs. The track is proof Rains are a band to keep your ears on. “Look in My Eyes” comes off Rains’ current full-length, Stories, which is currently available on iTunes and Amazon.
