Queen Release ‘Rediscovered’ New Song, ‘Face It Alone’

Listen to a ‘new’ song from Queen, featuring the late, great Freddie Mercury
After lots of buzz following Queen band members Brian May and Roger Taylor leaking the news of a rediscovered Queen song featuring Freddie Mercury that was possible going to be released, that “new” song, “Face It Alone,” has dropped. The song was unleashed to the world at 6:15 a.m. on Thursday (Oct. 13). Listen to the tune below.
According to a press release, the song came up in discussion during an interview May and Taylor had on BBC radio while they were at this year’s Royal Jubilee concert. Taylor called it “a little gem from Freddie that we’d kind of forgotten about,” with May adding, “It’s beautiful. It’s touching.”
The song is coming not long before the Nov. 18 release of a new revisiting of Queen’s 13th studio album, “The Miracle, ” which will be available in an eight-disc Queen The Miracle Collector’s Edition box set format. The box set will include “The Miracle Sessions,” which is being billed as an “hour-plus disc of further previously unreleased recordings, including six unpublished songs. Just as tantalizing for fans, the audio includes the band’s candid spoken exchanges on the studio floor in London and Montreux, giving the most revealing window yet into the four members’ creative process and the joy, in-jokes and banter on their return to working together.”
“Face It Alone” was first recorded during Queen’s 1988 sessions for that album, in sessions that resulted in the band laying down about 30 tracks, many of which were never released. The song was rediscovered when the group’s production and archive team came back to those sessions to work on “The Miracle” box set reissue.
“We’d kind of forgotten about this track,” Taylor said in a release, “but there it was, this little gem. It’s wonderful, a real discovery. It’s a very passionate piece.”
The single marks the first new song featuring the late, great Freddie Mercury released in more than eight years. Back in 2014, the band’s “Queen Forever” included three previously unheard tracks with Mercury, including “Let Me in Your Heart Again,” “Love Kills” and “There Must Be More to Life Than This.”
