Linkin Park Tease Previously Unreleased Song from ‘Meteora’ Sessions, ‘Lost’
Linkin Park’s “Meteora” album turns 20 this year, and in honor, the band is releasing a new song from those 2003 recording sessions
Linkin Park are celebrating the 20th anniversary of their sophomore album “Meteora” this year. In honor, the band will release a previously unreleased track called “Lost” this Friday (Feb. 10). The song was taken from the sessions for the seminal 2003 album.
Ahead of the full song’s release, Linkin Park have released an 18-second clip of the track, with late singer Chester Bennington’s vocals given the highlight. It’s eerie to hear Bennington, once again, on a Linkin Park track.
The new music comes just a few weeks before “Meteora” reaches its 20th anniversary. The album was originally released on March 25, 2003, and it was a blockbuster one for Linking park, scoring them the perennial rock radio hits “Somewhere I Belong,” “Breaking the Habit” and “Numb.” The record also pushed a whopping 16 million copies worldwide.
“Meteora” marked Linkin Park’s follow-up to their 2000 debut album, “Hybrid Theory.” Since “Hybrid Theory” was the band’s breakout album and is often considered the blueprint for nu-metal, “Meteora” is often overlooked, but the reality is that both records are important in the backdrop of rock music influence and history.
Linkin Park haven’t been very active since the passing of their lead vocalist, Chester Bennington, who passed away in July 2017 after taking his own life. No word yet on if the band will ever forge ahead without Bennington, but the idea doesn’t seem popular with fans. Meanwhile, Linkin Part multi-instrumentalist Mike Shinoda has been active since Bennington’s passing, releasing solo music and touring as a solo act. He’s also a big name on Twitch.
Linkin Park will release the new song on Friday. Before then, listen to a short clip of “Lost” via the band’s tweet below.
