Matchbox Twenty are back with their first new studio album in more than a decade, “Where the Light Goes”

Pop-rock titans Matchbox Twenty have announced their fifth studio album, “Where the Light Goes,” out May 26 via Atlantic Records. Ahead of the album’s release, the Rob Thomas-fronted band has released a new single, “Wild Dogs (Running in a Slow Dream).”

The album, produced by Gregg Wattenberg with Paul Doucette and Kyle Cook, promises a band “surging with energy for another great batch of real, relevant and relatable songs,” according to a statement.

In addition to the new music, Matchbox Twenty have announced a major spring and summer North American tour, dubbed the “Slow Dream Tour.” Singer-songwriter Matt Nathanson will open on the trek. The trek will kick off Tuesday, May 16, at Rogers Arena in Vancouver, BC, and run through a show Sunday, Aug. 6, at Chicago’s Hollywood Casino Amphitheatre.

The tour marks the group’s first since their 2017 “A Brief History of Everything” tour. Audio Ink Radio was at that trek, which also featured openers Counting Crows, and called it “the perfect end-of-summer concert.” The review adds, “With his charismatic onstage presence and distinctive voice, Rob Thomas is the kind of frontman that brings it every night. In front of a packed amphitheater crowd, Thomas was a fireball of energy, jetting around the stage from the show’s start to finish.” Read our full review of the show and check out exclusive photos here. Matchbox Twenty are one of pop-rock’s most popular names out of the ’90s. The band has topped the charts for decades with hits such as “Real World,” “Back 2 Good,” “Push” and “3AM.” Aside from his work with Matchbox Twenty, lead vocalist Rob Thomas has headed up a successful solo career, releasing five solo albums and receiving three GRAMMY Awards, 11 BMI Awards, the Songwriters Hall of Fame Hal David Starlight Award, two Billboard “Songwriter of the Year” honors and more.
