Extreme Cancel M3 Rock Appearance, Nuno Bettencourt Suffers Knee Injury
Extreme cancel M3 Rock Festival appearance: Extreme have canceled their set, as Nuno Bettencourt recovers from a knee injury.
Longstanding hard rock band Extreme have canceled their performance at M3 Rock Festival in Columbia, Maryland, which was set to take place Saturday (May 6). According to a representative from the band, guitarist Nuno Bettencourt has suffered a knee injury. Now, he’s unable to perform the gig.
“I am seriously bummed out that Extreme are unable to perform for everyone at M3 Rock Festival, as we’ve been looking forward to the festival for several months,” Bettencourt, who also performs lead guitar with pop star Rihanna, said in a statement. “We apologize for the inconvenience to fans attending the festival. I can’t wait to get back on the stage once I’m all mended up.”
While it’s bad news that Extreme won’t be at M3, the good news is that the band will appear on all their upcoming show dates. Extreme’s next scheduled show is June 2 at Best of Blues & Rock Festival in Sao Paulo, Brazil, with Rage Against the Machine guitarist Tom Morello.
Extreme are touring in support of their upcoming new album, “SIX,” out June 9 via earMUSIC. The band’s “Thicker Than Blood” headlining global tour has dates in North America this August, Australia this September with Living Colour and Japan, also this September. Tickets are available via Extreme’s website.
The band brings together Bettencourt, singer Gary Cherone, bassist Nuno Pat Badger and drummer Kevin Figueiredo. Regarding the new album, Cherone said, “We’re not in competition with anybody else, but we strive to outdo ourselves. There are some moments on this album where we did. We’ve managed to stay together after all of these years. We feel like we have something to prove when we get on stage or in the studio. Because of that, I believe some of these songs are among the best we’ve written.”
Bettencourt added, “Whatever you think an Extreme album is after two or even three songs, it’s not. That goes for every record we’ve ever done. True Extreme fans know to ‘expect the unexpected.’ I feel like we need a good old school rock album. Six is definitely modern, but you can put on headphones and go on a journey from top-to-bottom. It’s like ‘Extreme 2.0.'”
