The Pantera reunion tour kicked off their first U.S. show over the weekend

Yes, the Pantera reunion is here. The new lineup of Pantera performed the group’s first U.S. show in 22 years on Saturday (May 6). The gig was at the Thunder Beach Motorcycle Rally in Panama City, Florida.

Pantera’s new lineup features classic members Philip Anselmo (vocals) and Rex Brown (bass), playing with Zakk Wylde (guitar) and Charlie Benante (drums). Of course, fans have been questioning whether it’s really a Pantera reunion without the late “Dimebag” Darrell and Vinnie Paul, but having Wylde and Benante filling in for them has seemed to open some hearts to the idea of this reunion.

Pantera have already performed shows around the world, including in Latin America last December and Japan in March. Now, they’re finally in the U.S. Pantera’s last official concert in the U.S. took place on July 25, 2001, in Tacoma, Washington.

While last weekend’s show was pretty much a festival date, but the band has a full-fledged headlining North America tour this summer with special guests Lamb of God. In addition, Pantera are also playing a couple of U.S. festival shows in May, including the Welcome to Rockville festival in Daytona Beach, Florida, and Louder than Life festival in Louisville, Kentucky. Pantera will also open for Metallica on the band’s upcoming tour.

As for the performance, Pantera packed in 11 songs, beginning the night with “Mouth for War.” The band also rocked the classics, such as “I’m Broken,” “A New Level,” “Cowboys from Hell” and “Walk.” Other songs included “A New Level,” “Strength Beyond Strength,” “Becoming (with the “Throes of Rejection” outro), I’m Broken (with the “By Demons Be Driven” outro), “This Love,” “Yesterday Don’t Mean S***,” “Suicide Note Pt. II (for the first time since their reunion)” and “Domination / Hollow.”
